Park Avenue Laser’s Free Consultation and Extensive Pre-Op Testing: Some Clarifications from Dr. Chynn

Park Avenue Laser is more thorough in our initial consultations and pre-op eye testing than all other centers my staff has “mystery shopped”–my techs are all MDs, where at other centers they are all non-MDs (most are not even ODs, but just High School graduates who know how to push the button on a machine).

At our “free consult we confirm the patient’s Rx (prescription) is within laser parameters, tell them if they are a good candidate, explain the different procedures and options, make a recommendation for procedure, and then quote a price.

If the candidate then decides to proceed, they leave a deposit, and then we do the “full work-up” which takes about 1 hour and involves all the testing we need to obtain values to shoot the laser. This includes our Orbscan mapping, which most centers do not have, a much more accurate technique than topography (which we had but stuck it in our basement now as it is 10x cheaper, but no way near as accurate!). Our WaveScan is also performed during the full work-up. Many doctors don’t own this machine because it costs $50,000. Other practices often use some other doctor’s laser or so they don’t have to invest in it. 10 other comprehensive vision/eye tests are also performed during the full work-up.

If any of these tests reveal you are not safe to laser, we refund your deposit, as it is our choice to cancel your surgery. However, if the tests show that you are still a good candidate, and you cancel, then you don’t get this deposit back as it compensates us for the 2 hrs we spent with you on the free consult and full workup.

So, rest assured that at full workup, we will do so many tests on you that you will be reassured you have had the most thorough testing of your eyes you have ever had in your life, and your outcome will be great! (we may even call you in for further testing if you we have any questions at all as to the accuracy of your testing)!:)

Thanks and looking forward to making you 20/20 or better very soon!:)
Cheers!
Emil William Chynn, MD FACS MBA
