Nothing is worse then hearing the optometrist say, “You have an eye infection from wearing your contacts overnight–you can’t keep damaging your eyes!” Unfortunately, most people abuse their eyes by over wearing contacts. But they dislike glasses–maybe their appearance, or they lead an active lifestyle and play sports.

Everyone by now knows someone who have had LASIK, and are seeing great! However, everybody also has heard of someone else who had a LASIK complication. What if there was a better, safer alternative to LASIK?

Now there is! Park Avenue LASEK has introduced SafeSight procedure to NYC.

SafeSight(TM) is a more advanced, totally non-cutting procedure invented at Harvard and brought to New York by Dr. Emil Chynn.

Dr. Chynn was the 1st eye surgeon in NYC to get LASIK himself (in 1999). Although he had a good result, it could be better. Like many LASIK patients, Dr. Chynn’s eyes are a bit dry now (he needs to take tears), and he has some night glare (which only bothers him when he drives his Ferrari).

Both problems are caused by cutting the LASIK flap. Cutting the corneal nerves causes dry eyes–because nerves never grow back. Putting the flap back causes night glare–because your cornea is in 2 pieces afterwards, and light scatters across that interface.

By eliminating the cutting step from the LASIK procedure, Dr. Chynn has eliminated every serious complication from his laser procedure. That’s why Park Avenue LASEK can have the only Glass Operating Room in NYC! Because his cutting risk is not “low” but “ZERO” he can operate in a glass box–with nothing to fear, and nothing to hide!

Park Avenue LASEK has patients fly around the world to have Dr. Chynn perform SafeSight(TM) on them. Nobody flies in for LASIK–they just get LASIK back home.

A Russian oligarch’s private pilot told him that he wanted laser vision correction. The oligarch told him, “You can choose any surgeon in the world, and I’ll pay for it–you just better come out 20/20, because you’re my pilot!” The pilot flew their Gulfstream G650 from Dubai to JFK, and had Dr. Chynn perform his top-of-the-line, Diamond, Hi-Def, Epi-LASEK procedure.

The oligarch then had meetings around the world, so Dr. Chynn had to arrange for the pilot to see other surgeons in London, Moscow, and Singapore for his 1, 2, and 3-month postop appointments. They all examined the pilot, looked up in amazement, and said the same exact thing:

“Your surgeon somehow got you to the ‘theoretic limit of human vision’!”

The pilot asked each of them, “What does that mean?”

“In the human eye, our photoreceptors are only packed close together enough to yield a theoretic best vision of 20/10. You’re now seeing 20/20 without glasses or contacts–or twice as well as ‘perfect’ 20/20 vision. Dr. Chynn actually achieved the theoretic limit of human vision IN YOUR EYES!”

Still not convinced? Come to Park Avenue LASEK, pay $300, and get a PreVue Lens. They’ll take the Hi-Def CustomVue map of your eye, transfer this data to their VISX S4 IR laser, and instead of putting you under the laser, reshape a special plastic lens to micron precision. Then you’ll hold up the lens and see exactly how you would see after their Hi-Def SafeSight procedure–better than is possible in glasses or contacts. You can even bring your PreVue lens home to try it under various conditions. Seeing is believing! We also credit the $300 towards your procedure, so it’s free if you decide to proceed.

See better than 20/20–just like our pilot from Dubai! Experience what it’s like seeing in Hi-Def–with zero risk. All you need is $300 (or free if you have any valid medical–not vision–insurance, other than Medicaid).

Thanks & Best Regards,

Testimonial 1:
Because I got LASEK instead of LASIK, Dr. Chynn did not cut my eyeball in half. His staff is nice.

Testimonial 2:
I can’t believe I waited 31 years before getting my eyes fixed. I have been wearing glasses since I was in the 4th grade. Now here I am, more than 2 decades later, without glasses or contacts for the first time in my life. I went through many many pairs of glasses, and many different pairs of contact lenses.

I was absolutely terrified of the procedure. I was scared of anyone (including myself) coming near my eyeballs. I am the type of person who was even terrified of putting in contact lenses.

I came to PAL because I was referred by my coworker AND my sister. If they could do it; so could I.

Thank God Dr. Chynn has an amazing staff. The first person you see when you enter is his practice manager, Liz. She immediately put my fears at ease with her calm demeanor.

She assured me that everything would be okay, and that she had had the procedure done herself.

However, I still wanted to do my own independent research. I wanted to find out more about LASEK vs. LASIK. LASEK was definitely the route for me as I lead an active lifestyle and did not want to deal with the flap complications of LASIK. If you are considering LASIK because of the possible quicker healing time, please do google ‘LASIK complications’ before thinking any further about it. I also didn’t like some of the bait and switch pricing techniques of other centers.

I then saw all of Dr. Chynn’s certifications, degrees, and 16,000+ perfect cases. This all made me feel much better.

However, on the day of the surgery, I was still terrified; I had valium, a stress ball, nitrous oxide, and a whole group of people supporting me.

In retrospect, I was nervous for nothing. Dr. Chynn was extremely professional and I knew I was in good hands. He has a super team of Fellows and support staff. There is no bait and switch here; you are told everything that you should expect from Day 1.

I went from a minus 6 to 20/15 in only 5 weeks. I LOVE it. I still go to sleep feeling guilty; like I am falling asleep wearing contact lenses. I still wake up every morning surprised that my vision is so sharp.

If you have ANY doubts about this procedure; rest assured; it may seem expensive, but it is worth EVERY PENNY. It will be the best investment you have ever made. Stop thinking and start doing.

I had a great experience at Dr. Chynn’s office. Most importantly amazing results! I had my procedure in July 2011, and I couldn’t be happier. I am now seeing 20/20, and the best thing is LASEK is non cutting and no flaps! It’s a very safe procedure, and I was back at work in less than one week. Now I don’t need to worry about wearing uncomfortable contact lenses, or have my glasses slip off when treating my patients. This was one of the best decisions I have ever made.

Aside from the surgery, Dr. Chynn and his staff made the whole experience enjoyable and stress free. Everyone at PAL is very knowledgeable about LASEK, and can give you first hand experience about the procedure since all of his staff are LASEK patients.

I can’t thank enough Dr. Chynn, Dr. Puri, Dr. Villaroel, Liz and Victor for making this a fun and less scary experience!

Thanks!

I’ve had to wear glasses since I was in 1st grade. I then switched to contacts in Middle school, because then I thought glasses were “dorky”. My contacts, though, constantly caused me problems, like dry eyes, and I even developed (but was treated for) eye ulcers at18. I finally decided it was time to change my life and get laser correction surgery. I found out that Dr. Chynn is the only doctor in NYC to do SafeSight, which means they don’t have to cut the lens. I loved how that made the procedure much safer and non-invasive.

I got it done ONLY a week and half ago, and already there is a HUGE difference in my life. I can already see almost perfectly. It takes about 3-4 weeks to get perfect 20/20 (or even 15/20) vision, but each day I wake up and can see more clearly. I always wake up and think, “Oh, no I slept with my contacts in!”. I then remember that I’ll have perfect vision for the rest of my life.

The procedure itself was not scary at all. The assistants are all MD’s, and are super helpful and nice. Dr. Chynn is an expert at what he does, and made me feel totally safe. They also give you the option of getting laughing gas to calm nerves, which I said yes to, and that wasn’t so bad either!! I am really appreciative to everyone at Park Avenue Lasek, and am so happy that my life is changed forever!

Sincerely,

Dr. Chynn did my LASIK 8 years ago and when it was time for my enhancement, he remembered me. When I had my LASEK a couple of weeks ago, I was treated like royalty by his staff, and I’m tough to please. But what’s more, when I had a complication tonight having nothing to do with the surgery (a plug that stops my tears from draining came out), even though this was just an inconvenience that could have waited until Monday to fix, because everyone knew I was leaving for vacation, just to make sure I was in top form, at 11PM on a Friday night they opened the office just for me. As an attorney who often has to give exceptional client service, it was sure nice to receive it for a change!!!!!!!!!! Dr. Chynn is great but his staff completes him.

Hi, I’m not the type of guy to review Doctors online or anything for that matter and I’m NOT getting any kickback for this review … More

Hi, I’m not the type of guy to review Doctors online or anything for that matter and I’m NOT getting any kickback for this review however after reading all the other reviews and in appreciation to Dr. Chynn on a job well done here’s what I have to say:

1) I’m currently 3 months after surgery and thank G-D am 20/20 on both eyes. One eye took about a month to get there the other just recently. Right after surgery you see pretty well but it takes some time to get to 20/20.

2) It’s very tempting to do LASIK somewhere else being that recovery is much quicker but after all is said and done and once you’re seeing well you’ll be happy you did LASEK and know that you don’t have a flap to worry about for the rest of your life.

3) Most or all of the bad reviews are from people who didn’t actually do the surgery. I believe anyone that did the surgery has a different outLOOK.

4) I see some reviews berating Dr. Chynn on his manners with the staff etc. I can see what bothers them but when looking for a surgeon I was looking for talent not bedside manners. I personally like his style.

5) Standard PRK is also flap free but a friend of mine did PRK somewhere else, first of all most places that standardize in LASIK do not have much experience in PRK secondly this friend was in lots of pain for a full week after surgery and couldn’t cope whereas I had a some pain on day 2 but otherwise was coping well. The vision takes some time to be perfect but I’m thinking long term.

6) The office staff and all the other MD’s are all very courteous. The pre and post surgery exams are all very thorough and they give you all the time you need to explain your meds or any questions you may have. Even though your balance is paid in full they’ll give you all the post op appointments needed and make sure you’re happy. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the entire staff including but not limited to Dr. V., Dr. Puri, Dr. Almeida, Liz and King.

7) Another point that I haven’t heard anyone else doing (as a matter of fact the opposite is true) Dr. Chynn is very strict in making sure you follow all the post op directions. They’ll test you every time you come to make sure you’re getting everything right. It may be annoying but it definitely reduces error and hastens recovery.

I hope you find this review informative.

Cheers
John B.

Dear Dr. Puri,
In a few days it will be a full year since my surgery, and I still cannot believe I have 20/20 vision! My eyesight was -12 in one eye and -11 in the other, and coupled with astigmatisms, I never imagined I would one day be able to wake up and see perfectly. I am so happy and grateful to Dr. Chynn and everyone else who was so helpful and informative during the entire process, from consult to recovery, at Park Avenue LASEK.

Thanks again, and I will definitely be recommending Park Avenue LASEK to everyone I know after such a successful and fulfilling procedure!

I’m a third year medical student at NYU, and I only trust my eyes to Park Avenue LASEK!

Due to my interest in becoming an eye doctor, my classmate introduced me to Dr. Chynn, because he is known to be most experienced in LASEK, the no-cut, no-flap, all-laser procedure that can treat all prescriptions! I was also very impressed to hear that he graduated from the best schools in the nation – Dartmouth, Columbia, Harvard, Emory, and NYU, so he is evidently brilliant and I wanted to learn from him. I shadowed Dr. Chynn in the OR and was very impressed by the number of patients seeing better than 20/20 without flap-related complications associated with LASIK. In fact, Dr. Chynn is so confident in LASEK that he has treated his friends and family, athletes, and even military personnel, who relies on clear and accurate vision!

Because LASEK does NOT make a flap, Dr. Chynn has successfully treated people with extreme prescriptions, as high as -22 D! LASIK would be very unsafe because the cornea would be too thin and weak after cutting and so much lasering. In contrast, LASEK starts the laser from the surface rather than deep in the cornea, therefore your cornea ends up more preserved and stronger after LASEK than LASIK. Just a few months ago, Dr. Chynn and I presented a study at the annual conference of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, showing that LASEK is indeed safe and effective for high prescriptions (anyone > -9D or > +6D?). You can view the presentation here.

Given the strong scientific evidence and Dr. Chynn’s highly qualified training, I entrusted my eye to Dr. Chynn and had epi-LASEK done in June. That day I was not a nervous at all because I know that it is SAFE and PAINLESS, since Park Avenue LASEK is the only center in New York that provides nitrous oxide to calm my nerves. I did not feel the laser at all! My recovery went smoothly with no pain; nobody would have thought I had eye surgery the day before. Thank you, Dr. Chynn, for allowing me to see the world in high definition!

Dr. Chynn and one of his Pre-Med Interns, Sze, had a study accepted by the www.ascrs.com most prestigious society of Refractive Surgeons in the world. ASCRS accepted this paper because they want other surgeons to learn more about how to successfully treat extreme prescriptions that are so high that they can’t be treated w LASIK! Please review this study, and know that if LASEK is the safest for extreme prescriptions, it’s safest for you, too!

Dr. Chynn was asked by this journal as 1 of 3 experts in the US to explain to other surgeons tips on how to treat complicated enhancements. Please review this article, understand Dr. Chynn’s thought process, and how your choosing him as your surgeon makes sense, even if you’re case is relatively simple!

Safety and Efficancy of Advanced Surface Ablation for Extreme Myopia, Hyperopia, and Astigmatism

Purpose

To determine whether extreme prescriptions may be safely and effectively treated with advanced surface ablation techniques

Method

Retrospective review of eyes that underwent LASEK or Epi-LASEK with a VISX S4IR excimer laser. Eyes that had monovision were excluded

Adjunctive treatment to prevent scarring:

Mitomycin C (MMC) 0.01% intraoperatively

Oral steroids: 1-3 wks postop

Topical steroids: 2-6 mo postop

Vitamin C: 2-6 mo postop

UV protection: 3-12 mo postop

Study Population: Characteristics

Gain in VA at 3 months Postop USCVA vs. Preop Best Ccorrected Visual Acuity (BCVA)

100 % of eyes had postop UCVA > preop UCVA

Postop UCVA vs. Preop BCVA

Post UCVA vs. Preop BCVA (%)

Eyes with Postop UCVA < Preop BCVA

Complications

11/153 (7 %) of eyes had postop haze (tr to 2+)

3/153 (2%) of eyes lost ≥ 1 line of BCVA due to postop haze

1/153 (0.7%) of eyes lost ≥ 2 lines of BCVA due to postop haze

Conclusion

Extreme prescriptions may be safely and effectively treated with advanced surface ablation, combined with adjunctive treatments to prevent scarring

72% eyes: 3-mo. postop UCVA ≥ preop BCVA

Further studies are needed to determine whether extremely hyperopic eyes are more likely to lose BCVA and how to avoid this loss
