I had a great experience at Dr. Chynn’s office. Most importantly amazing results! I had my procedure in July 2011, and I couldn’t be happier. I am now seeing 20/20, and the best thing is LASEK is non cutting and no flaps! It’s a very safe procedure, and I was back at work in less than one week. Now I don’t need to worry about wearing uncomfortable contact lenses, or have my glasses slip off when treating my patients. This was one of the best decisions I have ever made.

Aside from the surgery, Dr. Chynn and his staff made the whole experience enjoyable and stress free. Everyone at PAL is very knowledgeable about LASEK, and can give you first hand experience about the procedure since all of his staff are LASEK patients.

I’ve had to wear glasses since I was in 1st grade. I then switched to contacts in Middle school, because then I thought glasses were “dorky”. My contacts, though, constantly caused me problems, like dry eyes, and I even developed (but was treated for) eye ulcers at18. I finally decided it was time to change my life and get laser correction surgery. I found out that Dr. Chynn is the only doctor in NYC to do SafeSight, which means they don’t have to cut the lens. I loved how that made the procedure much safer and non-invasive.

I got it done ONLY a week and half ago, and already there is a HUGE difference in my life. I can already see almost perfectly. It takes about 3-4 weeks to get perfect 20/20 (or even 15/20) vision, but each day I wake up and can see more clearly. I always wake up and think, “Oh, no I slept with my contacts in!”. I then remember that I’ll have perfect vision for the rest of my life.

The procedure itself was not scary at all. The assistants are all MD’s, and are super helpful and nice. Dr. Chynn is an expert at what he does, and made me feel totally safe. They also give you the option of getting laughing gas to calm nerves, which I said yes to, and that wasn’t so bad either!! I am really appreciative to everyone at Park Avenue Lasek, and am so happy that my life is changed forever!

Just wanted to let you know how happy i am with my surgery. it’s been three months and i fell a “a new and improved man”.. seriously, i feel great thanks to Dr Cynn and his wonderful staff who helped me a lot before and after surgery. I owe them my fast recovery, and all my gratitude goes to Dr Cynn and his great staff. Thank you again.

Dr. Chynn did my LASIK 8 years ago and when it was time for my enhancement, he remembered me.  When I had my LASEK a couple of weeks ago, I was treated like royalty by his staff, and I’m tough to please.  But what’s more, when I had a complication tonight having nothing to do with the surgery (a plug that stops my tears from draining came out), even though this was just an inconvenience that could have waited until Monday to fix, because everyone knew I was leaving for vacation, just to make sure I was in top form, at 11PM on a Friday night they opened the office just for me.  As an attorney who often has to give exceptional client service, it was sure nice to receive it for a change!!!!!!!!!! Dr. Chynn is great but his staff completes him.

Hi, I’m not the type of guy to review Doctors online or anything for that matter and I’m NOT getting any kickback for this review however after reading all the other reviews and in appreciation to Dr. Chynn on a job well done here’s what I have to say:

1) I’m currently 3 months after surgery and thank G-D am 20/20 on both eyes. One eye took about a month to get there the other just recently. Right after surgery you see pretty well but it takes some time to get to 20/20.

2) It’s very tempting to do LASIK somewhere else being that recovery is much quicker but after all is said and done and once you’re seeing well you’ll be happy you did LASEK and know that you don’t have a flap to worry about for the rest of your life.

3) Most or all of the bad reviews are from people who didn’t actually do the surgery. I believe anyone that did the surgery has a different outLOOK.

4) I see some reviews berating Dr. Chynn on his manners with the staff etc. I can see what bothers them but when looking for a surgeon I was looking for talent not bedside manners. I personally like his style.

5) Standard PRK is also flap free but a friend of mine did PRK somewhere else, first of all most places that standardize in LASIK do not have much experience in PRK secondly this friend was in lots of pain for a full week after surgery and couldn’t cope whereas I had a some pain on day 2 but otherwise was coping well. The vision takes some time to be perfect but I’m thinking long term.

6) The office staff and all the other MD’s are all very courteous. The pre and post surgery exams are all very thorough and they give you all the time you need to explain your meds or any questions you may have. Even though your balance is paid in full they’ll give you all the post op appointments needed and make sure you’re happy. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the entire staff including but not limited to Dr. V., Dr. Puri, Dr. Almeida, Liz and King.

7) Another point that I haven’t heard anyone else doing (as a matter of fact the opposite is true) Dr. Chynn is very strict in making sure you follow all the post op directions. They’ll test you every time you come to make sure you’re getting everything right. It may be annoying but it definitely reduces error and hastens recovery.

I’m a third year medical student at NYU, and I only trust my eyes to Park Avenue LASEK!

Due to my interest in becoming an eye doctor, my classmate introduced me to Dr. Chynn, because he is known to be most experienced in LASEK, the no-cut, no-flap, all-laser procedure that can treat all prescriptions! I was also very impressed to hear that he graduated from the best schools in the nation – Dartmouth, Columbia, Harvard, Emory, and NYU, so he is evidently brilliant and I wanted to learn from him. I shadowed Dr. Chynn in the OR and was very impressed by the number of patients seeing better than 20/20 without flap-related complications associated with LASIK. In fact, Dr. Chynn is so confident in LASEK that he has treated his friends and family, athletes, and even military personnel, who relies on clear and accurate vision!

Because LASEK does NOT make a flap, Dr. Chynn has successfully treated people with extreme prescriptions, as high as -22 D! LASIK would be very unsafe because the cornea would be too thin and weak after cutting and so much lasering. In contrast, LASEK starts the laser from the surface rather than deep in the cornea, therefore your cornea ends up more preserved and stronger after LASEK than LASIK. Just a few months ago, Dr. Chynn and I presented a study at the annual conference of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, showing that LASEK is indeed safe and effective for high prescriptions (anyone > -9D or > +6D?). Given the strong scientific evidence and Dr. Chynn’s highly qualified training, I entrusted my eye to Dr. Chynn and had epi-LASEK done in June. That day I was not a nervous at all because I know that it is SAFE and PAINLESS, since Park Avenue LASEK is the only center in New York that provides nitrous oxide to calm my nerves. I did not feel the laser at all! My recovery went smoothly with no pain; nobody would have thought I had eye surgery the day before. Thank you, Dr. Chynn, for allowing me to see the world in high definition!

Park Avenue LASEK changed my life!!!

I was tired of getting corneal ulcers from my contact lenses and I happened to be looking for a job at the same time. Living in rural Ohio there weren’t a lot of options for laser vision correction and I was scared that LASIK was going to mess up my night vision. Dr. Chynn was looking for an office manager who wanted LASEK, the safer, non-cutting, no-flap procedure and I jumped at the chance! When I researched Dr. Chynn, I was incredibly impressed with his credentials. He went to Dartmouth, Columbia Med School, Harvard, Emory, AND NYU Stern business school. I was bored at the family practice I worked in, bored in Ohio, and bored of my glasses and contacts. With Dr. Chynn not only did I get a new job in New York City, new friends, new experiences, even better— a few months after I was hired, I got brand new, better than 20/20 vision with no night glare or halos! I felt extremely comfortable leaving my eyes in the hands of Dr. Chynn because of his incredible reputation (20,000 surgeries) and education.

My surgery was a seminar open to the public; Park Avenue LASEK is the only center in New York that does that every month! It’s so people can learn about why LASEK is so much safer than the corneal cutting LASIK procedure in a low-pressure, educational environment. My surgery was great! It took only seconds per eye and for recovery I basically just relaxed all weekend and was able to return to work on Monday!

While Park Avenue LASEK may seem hectic at times, let me promise any potential patients that Dr. Chynn has the largest MD fellowship in New York and all the doctors and the rest of the PAL staff are here to help you get to your best vision without glasses or contacts. Hi, I’m an MD with formerly a high prescription of -10.0 in both eyes. Since elementary school I’ve worn glasses and started wearing contacts in middle school. In order to see I’d have to be a half an arms length away. Many times I’ve fallen asleep or taken call overnight with my contacts on. It was painful upon waking with dry eye. During medical school and residency switched contacts many times searching for the perfect kind. I’ve worn glasses and many times I’ve misplaced them. I’ve long thought about having corrective surgery but my parents were skeptical and many doctors were concerned about my high prescription. I did not qualify for traditional LASIK flap corrective surgery. I came for an evaluation after a colleague’s referral and decided to have the procedure. Dr. Chynn was very knowledgable and addressed all my questions and concerns. With contacts and glasses my best corrected vision was 20/25 and the expected results were just that. Since having LASEK, I have had 20/20 vision, better than expected results. It its great to wake up and not need to fuss with glasses and contacts. Furthermore, the staff are friendly and knowledgeable, especially James, King, Dr. Almeida, Dr.Puri, and Dr. Maria.

LASEK is truly wonderful!

I am a college student at Baruch College. I was on the swim team and it was important to me to get LASEK because I would lose my contacts in the pool frequently. Since Baruch College is just down the block from Park Avenue LASEK, I decided to come in and get some information. I did not know that LASEK is NOT the same as Lasik. I learned at my free consultation that LASEK is much safer than LasIk because it does not cut the eye! Knowing this gave me peace of mind and I decided to go through with finally getting the perfect vision I’ve always wanted! This concept was very new to me because I always heard about LASIK and that you need to be a certain age to get the procedure done, and that LASIK cannot fix very high myopia like I have had (-6.00 in both eyes). I learned that this was different for LASEK! You don’t need to be a certain age; in fact, Dr.Chynn overcorrected me to compensate for my vision not reaching its stability, therefore, in the case that my eye vision continues to change I will still be 20/20!

I was very nervous, and on the fence about surgery, after all it is my eyes at risk. However, after long research I realized the LASEK is the way to go, it is much safer than LASIK because it does not cut the eye, preventing a flap. I went to Park Avenue Lasek because they are the ONLY center in NYC that specialize in LASEK. LASEK is the best Christmas present I ever got. Yes, I got LASEK the day before Christmas eve!

Surgery was super quick and easy, the recovery was speedy, and I was shopping 3 days post op! I couldn’t believe that I finally have the 20/20 vision I could never imagine waking up with . I have never experienced dryness or discomfort throughout the healing process; however, Park Avenue Lasek offered me punctual plugs which relive that dry eye syndrome some people may have after surgery. I actually had this before LASEK, it made my eyes feel moisturized and comfortable.

I thank Dr.Chynn very much and certainly recommend him as a doctor to anyone who is looking to get LASEK. Dr.Chynn is a genius, and talking to him for a few minutes was like getting a lecture from a Harvard professor. After all, he went to Harvard, Columbia, NYU, Emory, Dartmouth.

Most of our patients are legally blind when they enter our OR. Ten minutes later after one minute of laser treatment per eye they sit up and are already legal to drive! That means they could go to DMV and pass their driving test that day!
