Two sisters, Monica-speech pathologist, and Audrey-lawyer. Single, with dog (Hershey, a Corgi). Lives in Village.

Third-generation ophthalmologist—uncle a retinal surgeon at Harvard, grandfather an ophthalmologist in Hong Kong. Long family history of service in medicine—one aunt is a general surgeon, nun, and President of a hospital in Taiwan.

Ran 1989 New York Marathon (3:46). Freshman H.S. soccer coach; broke right tibia twice in two different games. Enjoys cycling – rode from Atlanta to NYC. Hiked over 500 miles on Appalachian Trail. Enjoys fishing and boating.

Likes exotic travel, and has filled up 3 passports, including trips performing surgery in India, riding camels in Egypt, studying coral reefs in Jamaica, tropical rainforests in Costa Rica and Ecuador, other wildlife in the Galapagos. Enjoys photography as a hobby, including black and white prints, photojournalism, and fashion photography.

Was one of the first doctors and the first eye trauma surgeon physically present at WTC Ground Zero on 9/11/01. Established the first triage center at Ground Zero, and was interviewed on national TV by the major networks. Had several photographs taken at the time tour nationally and internationally as part of the “Here is New York” exhibit.
